Staff Spotlight on Chavetta Carter
Paralegal/Case Manager with Tony Fusco
Fasig | Brooks Law Offices
Tallahassee Office
Describe Your Role at Fasig Brooks
Chavetta: “I am the case manager/paralegal with Tony Fusco. I handle all new cases and assist in opening the client’s file with our firm. I send initial letters and speak with insurance companies to determine coverage limits on all cases.
I contact our clients via email, text, and phone call to introduce myself, as well as gather any additional information we may need to efficiently handle their case. I receive all settlement check drafts and coordinate processing with bookkeeping. Also, I process all outgoing settlement checks to the clients and providers. Once the cases have settled, I began preparing the file to close out.”
What Inspired You to Join the Team Here?
Chavetta: “I was very impressed in the interview with Jamil, Jimmy, and Carrie Martin. They were very straightforward and professional. The expectations were clear, and the TEAM atmosphere was present in the room. Naturally, when offered the job, I said YES~”
What’s the Most Meaningful Part of Working with Fasig Brooks?
Chavetta: “The family atmosphere. The Jimmy ‘On Level 100 – Energy’ and the Dana ‘No-Nonsense Personality’ order of the day! This makes room for Tony ‘Mr. Quiet Storm’!”
If Each Day Had 25 Hours, What Would You do With the Extra Time?
Chavetta: “That is easy. When you leave Fasig Brooks, you are good for nothing but a nap. So, I would say R-E-S-T.”
What Book or Movie Has Had a Significant Impact on You and Why?
Chavetta: “Recently, I went to see the remake of The Color Purple. For me, it would have to be one of the last lines of the movie when she said, ‘My family is home now.’ I value family and the precious time we have together. Encouraged me to continue to spend time with family, because not one moment is promised to you and time lost can never be recovered.”
What Keeps You Going When You Feel Pressure or Stress?
Chavetta: “My strong faith in GOD. I have learned how to stand on a firm belief that this too shall pass.”
What Is Something About Fasig Brooks You Wish More People Knew About?
Chavetta: “This is an awesome job experience. We work hard EVERYDAY! The attorneys never give up on your case. All employees are appreciated. We have an opportunity to give small input to helping with some major decisions! Thanks to the partners for welcoming me and pushing me to achieve more.”
What’s Your Dream Car?
Chavetta: “2024 Infiniti QX80”
If You Could Travel Anywhere, Where Would You Go and Why?
Chavetta: “I would travel to Alaska. Probably because no one I know (except for my husband) would be there – LOL! I want to go somewhere I wouldn’t run into someone I know. I feel like this would create the most relaxing time and could honestly be called a getaway.”
What’s Your Favorite Activity Outside of Work?
Chavetta: “I love to write poetry and perform spoken word. I also, which is probably the most favorite – love spending time with family and engaging with my church congregations.”
What’s Your Favorite Place to Visit?
Chavetta: “1st – House of Worship and 2nd – ANY PLACE with OUTSTANDING FOOD~”
What’s the Most Frequently Asked Question You Get from Clients?
Chavetta: “Ms. Chavetta, ‘How much do you think I am going to get for my case?’
I tell them about how I have spoken with insurance companies in their case – referring to each company by name. I reiterate the coverage limits and advise them we will not know the true value of their case until they have finished with their medical treatment.
I ask them to please keep us updated on their treatment and follow the treatment plan their medical providers outline for them. Also, for them to notify us if they are referred to any specialist. Usually this satisfies their questions.
However, if we have already submitted a demand to the insurance company, I will try to encourage them to wait on the response to the demand, so we don’t start speculating while encouraging them that Tony is working to get them the best settlement.
Then, as always, I let them know they can always reach out to Tony directly on his cell, or I can have him call them if they want to discuss anything further.’”
